1. Think of something you wanted to quit or change, like a bad habit or quitting smoking. Did you ever have a relapse when working on that issue? Why type of relapse was it: emotional, mental, physical, or a combination? What was that experience like for you? What tools did you use to cope with the relapse? Did you ever resume working on that issue again? If so, what helped you get “back on the wagon” so to speak?
2. Look at table 14.1 in your chapter. Pick any two characteristics and discuss how you could help a client overcome the characteristics you have selected.
3. Do you know anyone in your life who has a disability? Read the risk factors for people with disabilities. Does this person have any of these risk factors? As a counselor, how might you help this person reduce these risk factors?

Overcoming alcohol addiction is a gradual process that requires consistency and a lot of discipline. During my recovery journey, I experienced an emotional relapse. During this phase, I was emotionally distracted, and I could not focus. I would lock myself up and isolate myself from my peers and friends. With time I cut connections with my family and friends and became distant from people who cared about me. It was frustrating because I was felt exhausted, had frequent e nightmares, insomnia. Sometimes I would experience anxiety attacks that would last for a long time, and I would burst out crying and throwing tantrums. During this time, I attended the support group meeting and did not enjoy or take part in any sober activities.
