In chapter 11, we learned that a definition essay is an essay that gives the essential features or characteristics of a concept so that readers understand what it means and why it is important. For example, the term hero, is used so much that it has truly lost its meaning. In an essay to define a hero, a writer might identify someone who has been a hero in their life and explain why he/she believes this person meets the criteria of being a hero. They might even compare this person to another who is not a hero or compare this person to the dictionary definition of a hero.

Love Vs. Hatred
Introduction
The society is defined by a number of aspects that illustrate how people live together. Among the important aspects of society are the social blocks that people form, such as families, friends, and partnerships. For instance, in a family, people interact with each other on the premise that they are close to each other, with blood being the connection. On the other hand, friendship and partnerships are guided by aspects of finding common grounds for people to interact. In these settings, family, friendship, and partnerships, there are elements of love and hatred that exist (Zhang et al., 2020). Understanding how love and hatred guide the interaction of people in society requires an assessment of the background of the terms, their definitions, characteristics and qualities, and illustrations of how they exist in society. Therefore, the essay seeks to develop an in-depth discussion on love and hatred as concepts that ensure society exists by assessing how people interact guided by the concepts.
Background Information
The history of love and hate is deep, given that the term can be cited during biblical times as well as in instances of early humanity. Biblically, the creation story is guided by aspects of love where God provided for Adam in the garden of Eden on the basis of love for humankind. More so, the creation of Eve as Adam’s companion was driven by God’s love for mankind (Callahan, 2020). Adam and Eve would live in the Garden of Eden by loving each other. However, hatred chipped in after the first sin, where biblical scenes such as the Cain and Abel story were clouded by aspects of hate (Peterson, 2022). The early man also lived with love and hate, as shown by the discoveries. Drawings on family indicate that people loved each other. On the other hand, wars were fought, which illustrated aspects of hate. Therefore, love and hate have a deep history through indicating how people interact with each other.
The topic of love and hate is important since it defines concepts that humans experience and interact with every day. It is out of love that humans coexist with each other. However, when people dislike something or someone, they limit their use and interaction with the said thing or someone (Zhang et al., 2020). Over the years, love and hate have evolved depending on factors that have impacted the society. During the pre-technology times, love and hate were expressed face to face. However, love and hate evolved during technological times, where people show their love and hate for each other virtually using channels such as social media.
