Essay Instructions:

For this assignment, you will respond to the scenario below by writing three different pieces of correspondence. Four different options are provided below, but you can select whichever three you prefer. The choices are:

1) a complaint letter from a customer to a construction firm;
2) an email from a customer service representative to his or her manager;
3) a memo from that manager to all employees within the firm explaining the specifics of company policy;
(4) a letter from customer service responding to the customer’s complaints.

In addition to the three pieces that you elect to write, you will also write a cover memo to your instructor in which you outline the strategies that you employed and discuss any challenges that you faced while composing your documents.

Scenario

Denison Construction and Renovations is a thriving construction firm with offices in New Mexico, Arizona, and Nevada. The company specializes in high end projects and therefore employs master craftspeople to build custom cabinets, bathrooms, kitchens, and other projects to the precise specifications of very demanding clients. All Denison craftspeople have a minimum of five years of industry experience and come highly recommended from either previous clients or employers (or both).

Dear Sir/Madam,
RE: THREE OF THE CORRESPONDENCE OPTIONS I HAVE CHOSEN TO WRITE
The purpose of this memo is basically to inform you of the three correspondence options that I decided to write. These 3 include: (i) Complaint Letter from Mr. Kenneth Hatcher; (ii) Inter-office Memo from Mrs. Patricia Gordon to Construction Site Managers; and (iii)Letter of Apology from Ms. Delilah Flores to Mr. Kenneth and Mrs. Karen Hatcher.
While composing the messages, I had to put myself in the shoes of the individuals for whom I mimicked as I wrote the letter. I had to compose the letter almost the same as the person holding that position would have. Some of the details which I decided to include are the upsetting behaviors of some Denison Construction workers including the use of vulgar language and employees working without their shirts. I included these details primarily because they are most significant from the customer’s viewpoint, given that the customer is always right. In essence, these are the issues of major importance which must be tackled in order to address the customer’s complaints. The detail that I decided not to include is essentially any punitive actions that would be taken against any Denison employee who violates the policies – Policy 137k and Policy 162g. I deliberately did not include this detail since it would perhaps have served to demotivate the workers from performing their best and doing high-quality work which Denison Construction is known for.
While writing, the challenges which I faced include the inability to describe the disciplinary actions that would be taken in the event that some workers disregard the policies and continue to use obscene language and work with their shirts off since dismissing any employee may greatly affect the company’s productivity and demoralize other workers.
Sincerely,

Dear Madam,
RE: COMPLAINT REGARDING THE DECORUM OF DENISON WORKERS
I am writing this letter to complain about the decorum of a team of Denison workers who are building a 2,000 square foot indoor/outdoor addition at my home, 353 Park Avenue, Kingland, AZ.I am quite happy with the quality of work being performed by the Denison team and currently I have no intention to cancel the contract.
Although my wife and I are quite pleased with the work that the Denison team has provided, we are actually less than fully pleased with the decorum of Denison workers.Above all, I am distressed that the craftspeople have the tendency of not wearing shirts while carrying out many of their outdoor tasks. Given that my family lives within an exclusive, gated community, we are concerned that the immodesty of Denison workers may be reflecting negatively upon them. Even th...
