You are asked first to assume the role of a journalist and write a newspaper article summarizing the plot and action of the play. In your response to a fellow student, you will next assume the role of the newspaper editor, preparing the report for publication. John Wright has been assassinated. While, he was asleep at night, somebody strangled his neck using a rope. Apart from Mrs. Wright, Mr. Hale was the first person to discover the Mr. Wright’s body. Mr. Hale gave his explanation how he visited Mr. Wright’s house the previous day. He greeted Mr. Wright, who acted strangely and explained the incident in a dull voice saying her husband was found dead upstairs. Mrs. Wright defended herself claiming that while she was asleep, somebody strangled her husband to death. The manner in which Mr. Wright died was mysterious. Raja (2013) claims that it is a concern how Mrs. Wright did not hear her husband’s death, yet she slept in the same room with him. Mrs. Wright was detained into the custody since she was the main suspect.
Men went upstairs to conduct their investigations while women remained talking in the kitchen to pass the time. The sheriff and the county attorney were also present assisting men in conducting an investigation. Mrs. Peters and Mrs. Hale detected important information which men ignored to take care of. While men were keen focusing on forensic evidence to identify the cause of the crime, women looked at clues which revealed the exposure of Mrs. Wright’s emotional life. Being in the kitchen enabled these women (Mrs. Hale and Mrs. Peters) to discover a box containing a dead bird whose neck was strangled.
