One of the conversations that I would like to analyze is one between a professor and a student that is about to fail a class. In such a conversation, the student who needs an A in the final paper is stressed that she will fail the class and is trying to find out whether she can earn extra credit to help her pass the class. In this conversation, the professor would be unwilling to provide such an opportunity because the student had demonstrated significantly high levels of apathy throughout the course and was often missing classes or handing in assignments late. I would like to analyze the deliberations that ensue from this conversation.
