Summary of the Readings
The readings selected centralize around the eminently topical subject matter of violence against Black women. The article in The Nation explains this violence and the extent to which it has been normalized, the Out’s article follows the mistreatment of Black women and girls documented in the “Surviving R. Kelly. ” These were composed during the 21st century, or the year 2007 to be precise, a time when people are still fighting for equal rights for blacks and women (Jones 2019). At the same time, the Black population remained to be marginalized, economically oppressed, and socially and politically ignored.

The first question posed by the authors relates to the processes by which violence against Black women becomes normalized at individual, structural, and cultural levels.
