Children (ENG 102 WK 2 CASE)

Essay Instructions:

The Module 2 SLP is an Argumentative essay in which the writer takes a stance on technology and children and provides three or more supporting points as support.

After reflecting on “The Impact of Technology on the Developing Child” and “Is the Internet Hurting Children?" write a well-organized and well-supported essay on technology and children.

A well-organized essay has a beginning, middle, and an end. The beginning, or introduction, should include an opening sentence to grab your reader’s attention. Follow the opening sentence with a brief background on the topic or situation. In this case, it would be brief summary on technology and children today. The last sentence of the introduction is the thesis statement. The thesis states the main point of the essay, which in this case, would be a statement affirming the impact of technology on children today.

A well-supported essay includes supporting points, details, and examples. For this essay, you must decide the best way to organize the body of the paper. Will you have one or two paragraphs for each supporting point?  Will you divide the body of your paper into three or more paragraphs, one for each point? In any case, each body paragraph must support (explain) your reasoning (rationale) using specific details. Each body paragraph must have a topic sentence that states the main point of the paragraph, which in this case would be each supporting point.

This essay must include no less than FOUR citations from these two readings. Citations are to be a combination of direct quotations and paraphrased quotations with or without the author's name. No others sources are to be used for this assignment.

The conclusion typically summarizes the main points of the essay and/or closes with a lasting impression that connects the reader to their world. In this case, where do we go from here?

The essay must also include a Reference List that includes the two readings quoted in the essay.

Be sure to proofread your essay and edit for proper grammar, punctuation, diction (word choice), and spelling, as errors in sentence skills will lower a final grade. A grade will be determined based on the Module 2 SLP expectations and the Trident University General Education rubric for English.

Papers must be double-spaced in Times or Times New Roman font (12 cpi) with standard one-inch margins.

The first person "I" is not used in a formal essay, nor is the passive "you." In place of "you," "one" may be used.

Children
Name:
Institution:
In the old days, children used to play outside where they would get actual contact with the other children. In most of the cases, they would be on the playgrounds playing with their bikes and balls among other games that involved being imaginative and creative at the same time. There were also household tasks that had to be done, which provided the children with ample time to interact with the rest of the family, as well as, developing valuable skills. Eating was a family affair, where families would sit together sharing experiences in their lives, cultivating the aspect of human interaction that is crucial in the development of the children. With technology today, children are further drawn to the comfort of sitting down all day while interacting with the entertainment units, such as computers, television, tablets, smart phones and gaming units. For a child to develop in a healthy manner, they need to have adequate human contact, interact with nature, have the aspect of touch with their friends and family and most importantly get involved in activities that encourage movement.
Thesis statement: The technological developments around the children are doing more harm to them with respect to their healthy development than the benefits they are purported to bring.
Technological developments that have come in the 21st century are breaking down the family unit foundation, by soiling the core values in the society. Children spend many hours behind entertainment units, time that they should at least utilize having meaningful interactions with nature and other children, as well as adults in their lives. Most of the time is spent in sedentary lives, where the children are isolated and neglected while at the same time, their sensory stimulation is in chaos. Although their sensory systems are stimulated by the internet and the games that they watch and play on the television and the computers, their motor mechanisms spend most of the time in a day in a sedentary state. As such, it is no wonder that diseases, such as diabetes, cancer, sleep disorder, anxiety, depression and autism are so common among the children. Due to the imbalance caused by too much pressure on some part of the brain such as the auditory and visual sensory systems, the brain development is also affected (Clinton & Steyer, 1970). The children may also have problems wit...
