That is what artificial intelligence can do. Artificial intelligence (AI) is a computer technology that creates computers and programs capable of performing various tasks, replicating human thinking and action (Ahmad, Han, Alam, Rehmat, Irshad, Arraño-Muñoz & Ariza-Montes, 2023, pp. 2-4). The program learns from the past by analyzing data and human training to enhance proficiency. AI technology has made major strides in the last few years, becoming an essential part of everyday life at home, in the car, at work, at school, in hospitals, and all businesses. As its incorporation in every part of life continues, so do voices against its potential dangers grow louder. Artificial intelligence poses dangers of job losses due to automation, lack of data privacy, exacerbating racism and discrimination, and spreading disinformation and laziness. Job loss due to automation is one of the strongest arguments against AI. AI software, hardware, and robot adoption are becoming a concern all over the market. The technology has become less expensive, and since it requires no benefits and services necessitated by human employees, such as a salary, sick days, breaks, health insurance, pay rise, promotions, and working 8-hour shifts, automation has become preferable. By 2030, it is estimated that jobs currently accounting for 30% of total hours employees work in the United States will be automated, leaving up to 300 million full-time jobs lost to automation (Acemoglu, 2021, pp.2-3). For instance, self-checkout outlets in Target and Walmart, among other stores, resulted in the loss of over 11,000 jobs in 2019 as AI-assisted videos and scanners replaced human cashiers. Consequently, this will increase unemployment and poverty and break the social order.   Artificial intelligence poses the dangers of lack of privacy. The rapid implementation of AI raises a myriad of ethical questions, such as the safety of consumer data. AI penetration into all aspects of people’s lives, a lack of precise understanding and control of how it works has eased its ability to collect personal information from people by recognizing patterns without access or informed consent (Bartneck, Lütge, Wagner &Welsh, 2021, pp.63-64). Consequently, this has resulted in people’s private information being utilized for passive and unjustified surveillance without their knowledge. For example, the Russian government, in 2020-2021, introduced the large-scale use of the facial recognition software FacePay in their metro system, which was then used to monitor and arrest protestors for the arrest of the opposition leader in 2024. Similarly, AI puts people’s information at risk of use for criminal activities (Bartneck et al., 2021, pp.63-65). For instance, in 2020, 17 criminals defrauded a bank in the UAE of thirty-five million dollars by employing an AI deep voice to impersonate a bank employee to authorize the money transfer. Another argument against AI is that it exacerbates racism and discrimination. Various forms of AI are biased towards various groups of people in the United States.
