The purse lid from Sutton Hoo is one of the richest displays of wealth from the early Anglo-Saxon society period. It was made to cover a leather pouch carrying gold coins and was hung by three straps of a waist belt fastened by a gold buckle. The purse lid is set with seven gold, both small and large garnet cloisonné, as well as millefiori glass plaques which have been deliberately fixed to form details of the imagery.
