Perception involves analysis and processing the information received through the senses. Experiences allow people to learn from occurrences and form reality of occurrences in the surroundings (Rosenblum, 2013). The level of sensory perception for all senses develops with age and maturity and thus reaches the highest capacity in the teenage years and in the twenties. This is because sensory perception is mainly sharpened through years of training the sensory cells, experience as well as through development of memory (Society for Nueroscience, 2003). The different senses affect the sense of sight in various ways. The hearing, touch, smell, taste senses for instance provoke one to use their sense for sight to confirm the objects that elicit different sounds, feelings on the skin, scents in the nose and taste on the tongue respectively. These senses provide cues to the eyes to seek more information about the surrounding. The eyes in such circumstances serve to verify how accurate the other senses are. The sense of sight confirms information produced by other senses such as smells and affects how people perceive scents. This is because sights avails additional information that assists the perception of certain smells. Sight also affects people’s perception of smell as it is indicated that adding strawberry color to certain liquids has the capacity to increase pleasantness in the intensity of how certain liquids smell (Society for Nueroscience, 2003). Sight plays a significant role in enhancing perception of verbal communication. For instance, it has been reported that people find it more difficult to hear and perceive sounds from a conversation when they are unable to read the lips of the person speaking (Rosenblum, 2013). This shows that sight is important in assisting people to fully understand verbal communication. Sight also alters people’s perception of the sensory information elicited through taste buds. This is because people’s prior knowledge or perception of different colors influences the intensity of taste that they associate with those colors. There are claims that taste may be altered by sight and some restaurants have often used red coloring in drinks as it is believed to make them sweeter and this allows the companies to reduce sugar content in the drinks. Other studies indicate that people learn visual tasks easier when music accompanies tasks of learning experiences. This indicates that the brain learns how to coordinate information from different senses (Humphries, 2011). Scientists have also indicated that loss of sight enhances other senses such as hearing. They connote that blind people use both the auditory cells and the visual cells in the brain cortex for hearing purposes (O'Connor, 2009).
