Failure to do so can have dire consequences for one’s career; however, some practitioners still choose to engage in unethical behavior. In this Discussion, you will identify an example of a criminal justice practitioner who behaved unethically and consider his or her motives for doing so. The police officer ended up hurting a civilian who maintained a cut on his head, broken nose, and shoulder (Office of Public Affairs, 2021). In particular, for this scenario to have occurred, there must been have a breakdown in leadership in Logan Police Department. Just like my colleague says, law enforcers should uphold their civil duties, which is to safeguard the well-being of citizens. They should not hurt the people they are supposed to protect. Due to Maynard’s act, the public might easily loose the trust of police officers, which would have adverse consequences to community policing. In that light, the leadership of Logan Police Department should bring awareness to all law enforcers so that they can understand how to handle criminal suspects with respect and dignity.
