When looked at from the legal perspective, defamation is a general term that entails both libel and slander. Libel is a type of defamation that utilizes visual aspects such as newspapers, magazines, and photography. Slander on the other hand, is the kind of defamation that is all about oral statements. Defamation as a tort usually aims at defending an individual or entity against attacks that damage their reputation.
