Secrecy, solidarity, and cynicism are characteristics associated with the police and influence their professional and ethical conduct. Even though these attributes serve as mechanisms of survival and camaraderie, they also present challenges and conflicts in their service. First, secrecy is mandatory in police because of many sensitive investigations and operations. Criminal investigations require secretive officers who are accountable and transparent among themselves.
