The Supreme Court of the United States (US) allows law enforcers to use deadly force when preventing crime suspects from fleeing or if the suspect poses significant dangers to police officers or others (Garrett & Slobogin, 2020). In the scenario at hand, Smith and Smart did not threaten law enforcers or pose danger to individuals, which is why Hobbs and Pluff should not have used deadly force to apprehend them.
