Empowerment and Delegation Part 1: Scenarios Nancy Walters In particular, as the chief prosecutor, I should empower Nancy to take on additional responsibilities. Nancy has a good track record as an administrative assistant and understands her roles and responsibilities well. Over the last two years, she has been an excellent file clerk and receptionist. Besides, Nancy has continued to study, and for the last six months, she has been attending a paralegal school. I believe Nancy can do well in helping the deputy prosecutors arrange their case files since she is good at multitasking. Richard Smyth I would recommend Richard. The primary reason is that he is active and has performed at a very high level in the past. Even though some supervisors believe that Richard has an attitude issue, it is evident that some of his complaints are legitimate. In that case, it would be good to identify an enterprise for Richard, which he can pursue excellently. In some cases, employees might change their attitude toward their duties when they have worked for a long period without being promoted. Since Richard is experienced and talented, assigning him a new project would decrease his negativity about work. Angie O’Reilly The only way Angie can be empowered is by being allowed to work alongside detectives and take more investigative responsibility. However, being a patrol officer for three years does not mean that she has mastered the skills and experience required for a detective. Since there is no vacancy in the investigative division, Angie should continue helping detectives during her free time. That way, she will acquire the skills and experience needed to become a good detective and probably apply when the investigative division has an open position. Steve Morris Being overloaded with administrative tasks can make an individual lose performance efficiency. That is why Steve, the deputy police chief needs assistance. Steve has more on his plate than he can accommodate. On that note, adding more responsibilities will overwhelm him. When it comes to coming up with a comprehensive campus parking plan, a team should be formed comprising the sergeants and some student workers. Steve should only head the team and direct it on what to do. Part 2: Empowerment and Delegation in Criminal Justice A criminal justice organization deals with numerous things daily. Empowerment is acknowledging that workers can perform their duties on their own and that leaders should facilitate it. In addition, delegation refers to assigning and entrusting that employees can accomplish their tasks well even when left to do things without supervision. The process of empowerment and delegation in criminal justice firms cannot occur without trust. Supervisors must trust their workers to handle the duties at hand without micromanaging them.
