Security breaches involve exposing confidential or private information or data to unauthorized individuals. These breaches may occur mainly due to human behavior or technological failures that render the security of their systems or technologies vulnerable (Furnell & Collins, 2021). The most common human errors or behaviors that can lead to security breaches include using weak passwords and clicking on unknown links.
Weak passwords or credentials that intruders can easily guess form a significant portion of the risks to ICT systems. More so, individuals who reuse the same credentials in different sources can lead to subsequent attacks (Dawson, 2022). Attackers who gain access to both the username and password of specific sites can compromise such accounts or use brute force attacks to gain access. Additionally, clicking unknown links on the internet or email can lead to security breaches.
