Since time immemorial, people have tended to migrate due to one reason or the other. One of the factors that have affected migration is pandemics. The COVID-19 pandemic, for instance, has hugely affected migration in Europe because almost all countries have secured their borders (Migration Data Portal, 2021). These measures were put in place to minimize the spread of the pandemic. Subsequently, the number of irregular arrivals to the EU has decreased considerably. In April 2020, the numbers fell by a massive 85% from the previous month (Migration Data Portal, 2021). The decrease was caused by strict measures in the arrivals and departures implemented by the EU and third world countries. It is clear that in the last two years, the COVID-19 pandemic has been a key factor that has limited migration in Europe.
