The Scientific Explanation of Egyptians and their Out of Space Encounters
The Great Pyramid at Giza is recognized to be one of the numerous wonders of the world. One of the most intriguing factors that contribute to its admiration is the mathematical and geographical precision of its location and structure. The fact that the pyramid is exactly located in the center of all the land area of the earth causes most people to question the possibility of ancient Egyptians building the structure at a time during which they were not even aware of the fact that the earth was round CITATION Rea91 \l 1033 (Digest, 1991). However, in an age characterized by the belief in the objective scientific truth of events, the idea of extra terrestrial life-forms constructing colossal structures on earth needs to be closely examined and assessed by qualified experts before making any final judgments. One such expert is Dr. Zahi Hawass, who is a recognized archaeologist and has had the opportunity to closely examine the Great Pyramid of Giza and uncover a few of its secrets. With regard to the belief that aliens might have constructed the Great Pyramid, Dr. Hawass proved the theory wrong by discovering the very tombs of the Egyptians who built the pyramids CITATION DrZ90 \l 1033 (Hawass, 1990).
The sightings of unidentified flying objects are numerous and have occurred all over the world. There is no direct evidence that suggests that aliens had indeed visited ancient Egypt or that Egyptians held a belief in extra terrestrial life forms. Nonetheless, there exists some evidence which supports the idea that ancient Egyptians might have been one of the first people to detect unidentified flying objects. One such evidence is an Egyptian papyrus that narrates the sighting of ‘circles of fire` in the sky by the Pharaoh Thutmose III, his army and scribes CITATION Rea82 \l 1033 (Reader's Digest, 1982). The particular papyrus describes how the scribes first caught sight of the bright circular objects in the sky, and described it as having no head but as carrying an unpleasant scent. They reported the sighting to the Pharaoh, who observed after several days that there was an increase in the number of the unidentified objects, which illuminated the sky. Afterwards, the round objects rose into the sky ‘towards the south`. The pharaoh ordered the entire experience to be written in the annals of the ‘House of Life…so that it be remembered for ever` CITATION Rea82 \l 1033 (Reader's Digest, 1982).
One of the well known theorists who suggested a linkage between aliens and Egypt includes Erich Von Daniken. He asserts that aliens visited the Earth and during their stay, were able to build the great pyramids of Egypt. He further claimed that the aliens seemed to interbreed with early humans which resulted in the production of Homo sapiens. His hypothesis has not been supported much by scientific evidence. Instead, DNA evidence suggests that all humans can draw their heritage back to a small group of early humans living in Africa CITATION Lee96 \l 1033 (Krystek, 1996).
Another interesting fact which may be interpreted as a link between the ancient Egyptians and extra terrestrial life forms is how the ancient Egyptian`s language included a word for ‘foreigner`. This may initially seem to be a truth which shows how the Egyptians may have been positively open towards the idea of extra terrestrial life forms. However, there is no word in the ancient Egyptian language that represents foreigners particularly from outer space CITATION Dic06 \l 1033 (Dickson, 2006). Instead, the word foreigner could have been used to refer to any other person or group of people who were essentially not from Egypt.
The first question that arises, when considering the scientific link and likelihood between aliens and ancient Egypt, is whether or not there actually exists the possibility of extra terrestrial life forms. One interesting fact is the planet Mars has and had water, as was claimed by a team of scientists who announced that Mars had once been a big ocean. Accordingly, it follows that the presence of water allows for the possibility of the existence of other life forms on the planet. However, when the Viking 1 Lander collected samples of dirt from Mars to be used for examination of any signs of life, three out of four tests seemed to have supported the idea. The fourth test, on the other hand, which tested for the presence of organic carbon, came out as negative. Since carbon is considered to be one of the essential building blocks of life, its absence in the sample collected is taken to oppose the notion of any possibility of existing life forms. Some scientists are rather optimistic over the idea though and insist that the tests were not sensitive enough to detect tiny amounts of carbon that could have been present in the sample, or that there is still the possibility of life forms that may exist farther below the surface of the planet, from where the sample was collected CITATION Dis06 \l 1033 (Discovery Channel, 2006). Likewise, another discovery made in 2005 revealed the presence of water vapor in the atmosphere of a planet that lies outside our solar system, in the constellation Vulpecula CITATION Nas08 \l 1033 (NASA, 2008).
More recently, Phoenix, NASA`s space probe was able to collect samples from Mars in May 2008 and returned with valuable information. The presence of carbon, hydrogen, methane and water was detected, which include all of the essential building blocks of life. Additionally, the idea of life in outer space is not limited to life on planets, but also includes the possibility of life on the moons of planets. ‘Geysers of water vapor and organic compounds` were discovered on one of Saturn`s moons, Enceladus. Thus, as far as the environmental factors of outer space is concerned, there exists the possibility for the reality of extra terrestrials. Likewise, another terrestrial body that has been considered when examining its possibility to sustain life is Europa, Jupiter`s moon. Although initially, Europa was considered to be too cold to sustain any life form at a temperature around 260 degrees below zero, scientists now believe that there lies a vast ocean beneath all the ice and estimate it to size up to around twice of all of Earth`s oceans put together.
While examining the possibility of extra terrestrial life forms it is important to consider the large number of people who report themselves as victims of alien abductions and political conspiracies. A survey conducted in 1999 by Roper, asserted that 80% of Americans hold the opinion that their government is withholding information from the public regarding extra terrestrial life. Another example is that of Whitley Strieber who wrote numerous books about his abduction but soon later, came to realize that the experience only occurred after psychotherapy and hypnosis CITATION Rob03 \l 1033 (Carroll, 2003). Despite the large number of strange experiences of encounters with extra terrestrials, the fact remains that none of these carry substantial scientific evidence to promote the idea.
Nevertheless, one of the most important discoveries that were made with regard to the discovery of extra terrestrials is the evidence of alien life form in a meteorite. The discovery was made by Dr. Richard B. Hoover who is an astrobiologist at NASA`s Marshall Space Flight Center. The organism he found in the meteorite was declared to be similar to fossils of alien Cyanobacteria, which she...
