Introduction
Europe is one of the seven continents in the world and it is said to be the second smallest continent by surface and covers 10,180,000 square kilometers. It is the 3rd most populous continents after Asia and Africa .it consists of forty seven independent countries Russia being the largest and Vatican City the smallest. France is the most recognized country in Europe. There is also Spanish peninsula that separated from France in the north.
In Europe Spain was the first empire to be a colony. Its colonies started in the end of the 15thcentury and they started with Christopher Columbus. Spain discovered new trade routes and discovered local resources which enabled them generate lots of profits. The colonies later become a great source of generating income, a factor that contributed to the Spanish empire being the most powerful state in Europe in most years of the 16thcentury but later in the 17thcenturySpain degenerated. In the late 19thcenturySpain had lost her American colonies to British.
In the mid of 17thcenturyFrance emerged to become the most powerful empire in Europe. This lasted for two centuries until 19thcentury during the defeat of Napoleon. France had a huge empire of which they colonized, which included Louisiana, Canada and Africa but at war they could never beat the Royal British navy, for this reason the control of its colonies was always threatened and thus they never obtained the same benefits as the Spanish colonial did.
