Why I Want to Be a Nurse
I am Adenike Atilade, and I have been a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) for more than a decade. Throughout my life and career, I have developed a strong passion and dedication to serving others and contributing positively to the overall wellness of my community. These encounters have been pivotal in shaping my professional skills and fostering my passion for healthcare. Moreover, these experiences have prepared me to effectively pursue the Bachelor of Science in Nursing Prelicensure program at Western Governors University (WGU).
My professional experience as a CNA has offered a robust foundation in patient care. I have worked in different healthcare environments, including hospitals and nursing homes. The exposure I have gained from these settings has been pivotal, including exposure to diverse patient demographics and a broader range of health conditions. I have helped numerous patients carry out their daily undertakings, offered emotional support, and monitored critical signs. Moreover, I have worked together with healthcare teams to guarantee the maximum care possible. Collaboration in nursing is associated with heightened patient-centered care (Baek et al., 2023). These experiences have helped me understand the significance of communication and empathy.
On the other hand, dedication to lifelong learning has assisted me in enhancing my educational background. Over time, I have taken several continuing education courses to preserve my certification. The courses have also played an important role in boosting my skills. These courses include specialized training in basic patient safety and basic life support. Even though I have yet to receive my college degree in nursing, my persistent hunt for knowledge reflects my commitment and dedication to the profession. I acknowledge that education is a crucial tool that offers up-to-date, evidence-based practices to healthcare practitioners. These practices assist these providers with the right skills and expertise to deliver effective and safer care. By enrolling in the WGU nursing program, I can obtain more knowledge in nursing theory, patient-centered care, and clinical skills.
Community involvement has been close to my heart. For instance, I...
