1. Part 1Evaluation of an Emerging Technology. In 250 – 275 words, provide an overview of an emerging technology and its role/function in health care. You must 1) provide a comprehensive and insightful overview of the emerging technology, clearly articulating its role and function in healthcare; 2) thoroughly analyze current competition and articulates how the technology enhances value, quality, and cost-effectiveness in healthcare; 3) provide an excellent explanation of how technology integrates with a nurse’s role, using specific examples of informatics technology
a. Describe an emerging technology. What is the current competition for this technology?
b. Explain how the technology enhances value, quality, and cost-effectiveness in health care.
c. Explain how a nurse’s role incorporates informatics technology.
2. Part II: Policies and Regulation. In 250 – 275 words, analyze (examine in detail) current policies and regulation governing informatic and communication technologies. You must 1) provide excellent identification and explain a relevant policy and regulation, linking them directly to enhancements in healthcare; 2) Articulately advocates for policies/regulations with compelling arguments and specific examples.
a. Identify a policy (state or federal) and one regulation currently in place.
i. Policy
ii. Regulation
b. Explain how the policy and regulation enhance value, quality, and cost-effectiveness in health care delivery.
c. In additional 250-275 words, explain how you would advocate for policies and regulations that support the appropriate use of technologies impacting health care.
3. Equitable Care. Select an underserved population. In 250 – 275 words, using the emerging technology you selected, determine if the technology will achieve equitable care in an underserved population. Consider access, cost-effectiveness, care outcomes, and mitigating factors specific to your selected population in your analysis. You must 1) provide a detailed and insightful analysis of how the technology could achieve equitable care, considering all key factors; 2) provide excellent identification and justification for the most critical priority for the selected population with a comprehensive outline of required.
a. Present your selected population and explain why it is considered an underserved population.
b. Evaluate the emerging technology you selected and discuss what aspects must be considered to ensure equitable care for this population.
c. Based on your overall analysis, describe which aspect would be the most critical priority for the population you selected (access, cost-effectiveness, care outcomes, and mitigating factors). Why is this the most critical priority?
d. In an additional 250-275 words, describe the type of resources and opportunities that would be required for your selected population to have the intended outcomes from the emerging technology.

Part I: Evaluation of an Emerging Technology
a. Describe an emerging technology. What is the current competition for this technology?
Remote patient monitoring (RPM) is a technology that is changing how healthcare is delivered. In addition to the various technologies, modern RPM technology makes use of wearable sensors, robots, and mobile health (mHealth) applications (Cawthra et al., 2022). The unique inputs of RPMs allow doctors to continuously monitor the patient’s vital signs, drug adherence, and level of activity outside of the clinical environment. Patients are also better placed to monitor their behaviors relative to various clinical regimens courtesy of RPMs. Also, with RPM, healthcare needs can be executed proactively as it provides real-time data to the clinicians.
The competitive landscape for RPM is dynamic and diverse. Big technology companies offering RPM products and services like Medtronic and Philips have a complete system that is integrated within their unique software or systems. Still, other companies like Apple and Google are getting involved, especially in the research and development as well as product market test phases (Cawthra et al., 2022). The competing companies are focusing on making consumer-friendly wearables and data efficiency inputs. A lot of start-ups are also building specialized RPM solutions targeted at specific diseases or patient groups. The competition centers on key factors that include the accuracy and reliability of sensors as well as the seamless integration of data into existing healthcare systems. The other fronts for competition are the user-friendliness of mHealth applications and the interoperability of RPM platforms with other healthcare technologies.
b. Explain how the technology enhances value, quality, and cost-effectiveness in health care.
RPM boosts healthcare value by aiding timely interventions with real-time data collection. This ceaseless stream of data enables medical professionals to effectively modify healthcare strategies thereby lowering the chances of negative impacts requiring additional hospital care. When patients' vital signs are closely monitored through remote patient monitoring, the physicians can detect slight changes that could signal deteriorating health. This also facilitates personalized care plans (Longyear, 2021). Additionally, RPM helps to save money by cutting down on the need for many in-person visits and hospital stays. That is, RPM helps to prevent costly trips to the emergency room and hospitalizations by enabling patients with chronic conditions like heart failure to have their medications and lifestyles altered quickly. When stakeholders use such health resources properly, they save on costs, increase value, and enhance the quality of outcomes.
c. Explain how a nurse’s role incorporates informatics technology.
Through the use of RPM, nurses can access and share a patient’s health data seamlessly. That is, the systems allow nurses to gather and analyze data about particular patients without strain. Their work can simply include gathering information in electronic health records and reviewing data from the wearable sensors to look for trends and communicate with different team members from both datasets. In addition, nurses can use telehealth services to execute remote visits, conduct patient education for self-management, and monitor compliance. Further, nurses can provide fast care using informatics. That is, they can deploy data from multiple sources to offer complex care. Through the application of telehealth, nurses can coordinate care through remote consultation, patient education on self-management, and monitoring of treatment compliance thereby improving patient outcomes.
Part II: Policies and Regulation
a. Identify a policy (state or federal) and one regulation currently in place.
The federal policy landscape significantly influencing healthcare technology adoption includes the Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health (HITECH) Act. This act was part of the American Recovery and R...
