HLT 94 Dietary Analysis Assignment (80 pts) Due: April 9
Using the Client’s Dietary Report (PDF file) included in this module, please answer the questions below (Parts 1-7).
Imagine that you are working with a client who has given you her dietary intake record for March 3, 2025 (see PDF). She has told you that her diet is very similar every day. If that is true, how would you assess the nutrients in her diet based on the questions below? Note that there are several questions within each part. I strongly suggest that you look back at your notes/slides from earlier in the semester to answer these questions.
Your client is a 33-year-old female who works as a retail manager. She estimates that during her 8-hour shift, she probably sits for about half of the time doing paperwork and is on her feet for the rest of the time. Outside of work, she reports that she gets little exercise other than taking a few 30-minute walks per week and doing household chores/errands. Her exercise level would be considered “low-active”. She is 5’ 5” tall (65 inches) and weighs 160 lbs.
Using the above highlighted information on your client, go to the following website and determine her Estimated Energy Requirement (EER): https://globalrph.com/medcalcs/estimated-energy-requirement-eer-equation/
On the EER site: Scroll down the page until you see the EER calculator input boxes. (Ignore the blue box titled “popular weight related calculators.”) Remember that EER determines the total number of calories you should have each day to maintain current weight based on gender, age, height and weight, and current activity level (in this case “low active”). Based on the highlighted information above about your client, you will enter these factors into the calculator you find at the above link. (Make sure when you enter her weight, you use “pounds” not kilograms.) Once they are entered, click on “CALCULATE EER” (in red).
The site will open a new screen with the results—scroll down until you see the blue print with the number of calories your client should be getting per day to maintain her current weight and also it will show you her BMI—you will need to provide these numbers in Part 1 below.
Now you are ready to answer the questions. Remember to write complete sentences.
Part 1—Calories (8 points):
* How many calories (kcal/day) should she be getting daily according to her calculated EER? How does that compare with what her dietary report shows she consumed on March 3?
