U.S. Health Care Delivery System
Access to health care that is comprehensive and of proper quality is crucial to any population in attaining health equity as well as ensuring members of the population live proper healthy lives (Shi, 2011). In the United States, there exists huge inequality in access to quality health care that causes challenges of access to health care in various locations, certain genders, and races, along various social economics and other demographical groups. Over forty seven million citizens in the United States have no access to health insurance and this has led to many deaths in the country. Studies have shown that more resources are spent by the United States in health care than is it happens in other developed nations. Unlike most developed economies, the United States is yet to adopt universal health care for its citizens.
Many citizens in the United States are not pleased with the current state of health care in the country; many people believe the current health care system is not fair. There have been reports of deaths that with proper health care could have been prevented. There are concerns over the quality of health care in the country, with professionals in the industry treating the practice as a business. Lack of medical care from private organizations or the government is a huge problem to some citizens. Even though Medicare and Medicaid have made some progress towards achieving universal health by making health care more privatized. At the same time, this allowed fewer Americans the chance to not receive health care as a benefit of their employment, and forced those who could to go get insurance from a private institution. However, the biggest issue, which still remains the largest issue, is the cost for not only the individual who seeks health care but for us as a nation who spends a tremendous amount of money on health care.
Another contributing factor that contributes to the inequalities of the health care system is gender. Ironically, more boys than girls are born every year, however, there is an overwhelming number of more women on earth than men. Another contributing factor was the age-adjusted mortality rates because the leading cause of death within the United States for the year 1999 that in everything besides Alzheimer’s disease men have higher death rates than women (Kovner, 1995).. Therefore, it can be said that women for whatever reason might have reached a point in which they have achieved a way of life, or maybe it is their biological make up that allows them to surpass men in the health department.
This can also be discussed in terms of the differences that are found between racial and ethnic minority populations to those individuals in the majority group that tends to be white. The men of the minority group are the high-risk group and tend to have shorter life spans than those of white men. The greatest disparities are between African American men and their White counterparts. Factors tend to be their community that in significant number of cases seem to be low income house communities with an extremely rough environment that allow these men to think they have very few if any, opportunities in life. Their community can also contribute to their lack of education, which definitely contributes to the job they would receive; by doing this, the only opportunity they have is with low-income jobs they would never pay enough to get them out of their surroundings.
Middle class black men also had significant difference then other men of the middle-class standing. Another interesting fact was that African Ame...
