The ears comprise one of the five senses. The sense of hearing is unique since it is possible to understand familiar voices. A voice has different types of information that can differentiate between a family member, a friend, or a stranger (Schnupp et al., 2011). We can identify familiar voices since we learn something from the voice with time. The two acoustic attributes of the voice that vary between people are resonance and voice. The two properties help to recognize what is being said and who is saying it. An experiment by Holmes (2019) using 11 participants found that resonance is an integral feature that can help us distinguish whom a voice belongs to. It is still possible to determine who is speaking even if the resonance or pitch is modified.
