Platelet Disorders
Platelets are little pieces of blood cells. Platelets help in the prevention of bleeding by forming of blood clots. Platelets are made from bone marrow, platelet disorders occur when there are too many or too few platelets or when the platelets do not work properly. Whenever one has too little number of platelets they are at risk of mild or serious bleeding and when the platelets are too many one is at risks of getting blood clots. There exists other platelet disorder such as von willebrand disease where platelets cannot stick together or cannot attach to the blood vessel walls leading to excessive bleeding.
Platelet count is usually used to detect the low or high number of platelets in blood, the test is carried out usually on people undergoing treatment on platelets related issues. Some of the symptoms that lead to a blood count test include bleeding disorders such as prolonged bleeding from small cuts, several nosebleeds, heavy menstrual bleeding, and small red spots on the skin among others. The effects associated with the platelets disorder include excessive bleeding whenever one has a small cut or frequent nose bleedings.
