Strep throat, also known as streptococcal pharyngitis, is an infection of the back of the throat, especially the tonsils which is caused by GAS (group A streptococcus). The most common signs and symptoms of the disease are red tonsils, enlarged lymph nodes in the neck, fever, severe headache, sore throat, vomiting or nausea (1985). Some of these symptoms develop instantly, while others may take some time to become visible.
