Research Ethics and Evaluating Qualitative Research Grounded theory and phenomenology are qualitative research approaches applied in social research and other scientific areas. Some individual differences and similarities can be highlighted between these techniques. Many investigators use grounded theory in social sciences, while phenomenology is more than a research technique (Gerrish & Lacey, 2010). This is because phenomenology entails a philosophical perspective that centers on people's lived experiences and their interpretations of a particular phenomenon. In grounded theory, the data is the basis of formulating the theory (Urcia, 2021). An example of grounded theory research is studying why the personnel is frustrated by their responsibilities. On the other hand, an example of phenomenological analysis is understanding the lived experiences of family members with cancer children.
