Quality Initiative and Barriers to Implementation
One of the quality initiatives from my workplace was the implementation of the electronic health record (EHR) system. In particular, in the digital era, health facilities need to have electronic data recording systems to facilitate the provision of high-quality healthcare services. Notably, the management team emphasized the importance of EHR due to its effectiveness in retrieving patients’ data, avoiding unnecessary test repetition, and promoting the accessibility of medical services. As a result, the initiative has seen a positive transformation in my workplace despite barriers that have been faced.
Several barriers were encountered in the implementation of an EHR system in my workplace. First, healthcare providers hesitated to adopt the new system, citing that it was inconvenient and that they preferred to stick to the old ways of doing things. Gesulga et al.
