Informatics is revolutionizing the healthcare and medical industry through improved patient care services, enriched medical data, and optimized decision support. It can improve patient outcomes and safety in pregnant women, new mothers, and infants (Dorst et al., 2019). Medical practitioners can use informatics to collect, store, and analyze extensive health records and patient's medical history to make informed and timely decisions. The information such as prenatal checkups, ultrasound records, vital signs, and medical data of newborn and mother's health records assist the physicians in identifying any anomalies and considering all the information while making critical decisions related to newborns and mothers (Ghimire et al., 2023). It also detects early warnings and real-time indicators through advanced monitoring systems, checking maternal heart rates, fetal heart tones, and contractions. The Quality and Safety Education for Nurses (QSEN) initiative prepares nurses for mother and newborn care by providing them with relevant skills, abilities, and competencies for high-quality healthcare services (Ferro & Yoder, 2023). The project was introduced in 2005 to improve the quality of acute care and reduce errors in the medical care domain as a response to the Institute of Medicine's report, "To Err Is Human" (Lancaster et al., 2022). QSEN competency and safety directly correlate with improved maternal and newborn health outcomes. It focuses on controlling uncertain circumstances through effective systems and quality care services provided by healthcare providers (Naveed & Regidor, 2024). In prenatal and neonatal care, it monitors maternal and fetal health metrics, avoids complications during delivery, and improves coordination and communication among medical practitioners, postpartum care, and maternal morbidity. The research study by Dolansky et al. (2023) concluded that QSEN-aligned safety practices substantially decreased complications regarding mothers' and newborn healthcare. It included labor trauma, maternal and neonatal infections, childbirth complexities, and postpartum distress. The outcomes emphasize the significance of quality and safety education and training for nurses. According to Ferro & Yoder (2023), the basis for the integration of the QSEN competencies with competencies of the National Organization of Nurse Practitioner Faculties (NONPF) was proposed by Pohl & Sherwod in their research study published in Nursing Outlook in 2009. They found a strong association and alignment between both competencies. The concept was executed by (Boris et al., 2019) and practiced during the Cleveland Veteran's Affairs nurse practitioner residency program. Drenkard et al. (2015) further validated the idea by practically implementing QSEN competencies theories and models into clinical practices. Dolansky et al. (2023) applaud QSEN teaching strategies in nursing schools and their integration into most hospitals. QSEN emphasizes the achievement of six competencies by the nurses to enhance their care for the patients, both elders and children (Sherwood, 2021). It focuses on patient-centered care where patients are given priority in every decision they make, as well as their well-being and respect towards their families and culture.
