These scenarios are about human interactions. They illustrate what makes health care providers more effective when they interact with one another. The first scenario demonstrates a setup where different individuals are quick to dismiss the views of others ((AHRQ Patient Safety, 2018). In contrast, the second scenario illustrates a setup where the doctors consider everyone's opinion. These scenarios are relevant in the study of psychological safety.
Psychological safety means that you feel safe interacting with others without fearing being embarrassed or punished in some way (Pfeifer & Vessey, 2019). Psychological safety is vital as it encourages speaking up behaviors in workplaces. In the first scenario, the nurse Stephanie is quick to dismiss the queries of the patient’s roommate. In contrast, the nurse listens to what the patient's roommate says in the second scenario. These scenarios illustrate the advantage of allowing everyone's contribution. The nurse was able to ascertain the urgency and seriousness of the matter.
