Pregnant Women Should Abstain From All Alcoholic Beverages Completely.
In the current society, people have different prerogatives to make choices in their lives. Alcoholism is one of the choices that people make from a global perspective. People from different genders and ethnic grounds choose to either do alcoholism or abstain from alcoholism. Alcoholism is one of the habits of various social and health effects to people. One of the susceptible groups to the effects of alcoholism is the pregnant women. Other than the societal view that frequently views alcoholism to be a vice in most societies, there are health effects that arise from alcoholism that affect both the mother and the child. Most of the medical consultants advise pregnant women to stay safe from the myriads of health effects that pregnant women are at risk of facing once they indulge in alcoholism behaviors. The above reasons make it important for pregnant women to abstain from alcoholism. The paper purports that pregnant women should abstain from all alcoholic beverages completely as abstinence frees the women from most of the risks that they might face from their behaviors.
One of the reasons as to why pregnant women need to abstain from alcohol is that alcoholism has health effects on children. Research shows that alcohol has a component called teratogen, which affects developing fetus quite significantly (Bingham, 2015). Taking alcohol that emits the teratogen, which puts the life of the unborn child to risk. The risks might include bodily deformities, abnormalities of the facial parts, slowing down or affecting the central nervous system, and at times, it affects the intellectual capability of the unborn child. Having deformities and abnormalities is a harmful side effect that pregnant women can avert from their children by abstaining from alcoholism behaviors. A parent might also face the risk of premature birth in cases where they take alcohol. Premature birth affects the life of the child or even risks killing the child. Based on the above reasons, it is important and advisable for pregnant women to abstain from alcoholism behaviors.
Another reason as to why women need to abstain from alcoholism arises from medical advice. Doctors, surgeons, and health specialists have disputed sentiments such as there is the right time or the advisable amount of alcohol that pregnant women can take to be mythical (Mather, 2015). The reason behind the above argument is that medical research shows that pregnant women taking alcohol are risky to their lives and the lives of the unborn children. From a different angle, the society might have evolved to giving people the freedom to choose whether to embrace the behavior of alcoholism or abstain from the behavior. Although, pregnant women need to prioritize the lives of the unborn child to their pleasures. Most of the organizations run campaigns that advocate for abstinence of alcohol in women during their pregnancy period (McCarthy, F. P. et al., 2013). The campaigns are quite educative and enlighten pregnant mothers on the risks that they put their unborn child in through their alcoholism behaviors. The overwhelming number of medical advice, campaigns, and research that advises pregnant women to refrain from alcoholism during pregnancy shows that pregnant women should abstain from their alcoholism behaviors.
Another reason is that alcohol consumption affects the health of the fetus. Studies show that alcohol consumption event two months before conception might affect the skull of the unborn child quite significantly (Ornoy & Ergaz, 2010). The skull is one of the important parts of the human body as it houses the brain. The brain is the part of the body that controls human actions, as it is the central nervous system, which dictates reflexes, motor responses and all the other body actions. In case a child is born with a soft skull, there are huge risks involved that related to the health and well-being of the child. To add on, risking the brain, which is the part of the human body that controls other body actions through contentious behaviors by the pregnant mothers, is quite unethical. Based on the above arguments, pregnant mo...
