The doctor should not allow Mike to continue making decisions that seem rational and harmful to James’s health because he is well versed with the condition and thus should guide and inform Mike of the gravity of the condition that James is facing. The doctor should go ahead and inform Mike of the various adverse outcomes that may arise if James does not receive the kidney in a year. However, the doctor is not supposed to make religion seem unrealistic and therefore should make Mike believe that religion is vital in the situation. However, there is a need to also try professional treatment because of the high risk involved with his decision to take James to receive spiritual healing. In other words, the doctor should find a way of convincing mike that providing treatment to James is not necessarily making him desert the teachings of the religion, but it is about saving his child’s life. It should be noted that according to research on the health care aspect, it has been concluded that there are several benefits of spiritual care when incorporated with the patient’s treatment. Some of the benefits include lowered anxiety and depression, promoting better mental health, improving the patient’s quality of life, and others (Nissen et al., 2021). On the other hand, the doctor is supposed to remind Mike of how when they took James for spiritual healing, they still had to bring him back for the dialysis, and this is to convince mike to try religion and the professional treatment as this would ease his decision making as far as James’ health is concerned.

Like the non-Christians, the way Christians view or perceive sickness usually differs from one person to another. Many Christians tend to believe that sickness is always from the devil and that only prayer can heal the sick and not the medicine that the doctor provides. Notably, there are even Bible verses that tend to make the people believe that only God can heal them, and thus, they end up believing that medicines, as provided by the medical personnel, cannot help them heal. Others believe that taking any of the treatments will show their mistrust of God (Marriottin, 2018). On the other hand, Christians sometimes view sickness as a punishment from God because of their endless sinning.
