Serotonin
Serotonin is a neuromodulator, meaning a molecule produced by neurons to modulate communication between other neurons in our brain. It is particularly involved in regulating human behavior, mood, and even learning and is associated with happiness. It is also involved in motivation and decision-making (Garbarino et al., 2019). The disorders related to this neurotransmitter will include, as far as psychiatry is concerned, mood disorders, personality disorders, depression, and concentration disorders. Serotonin deficiency will lead to anxiety, restlessness, and paranoia.
Serotonin is also the hormone for taking a step back, and the reduction of this neurotransmitter in the body can cause: impulsivity, behavioral disorders, addiction to alcohol and drugs; hypersensitivity, and hypervigilance which result in mood swings, aggressiveness, impatience, and irritability (Garbarino et al., 2019). Finally, a serotonin deficiency will lead to a decline in intellectual faculties, resulting in confusion, memory loss, and concentration disorder.
