The Role of Organizational Culture in Evidence-based Practice
Evidence-based practice (EBP) constitutes a problem-solving approach for healthcare practice that includes the conscious utilization of high-quality current scientific research, patient values, and clinician expertise. Organizational culture impacts the successful execution of EBP by influencing the preparedness of the healthcare professionals for the change. Organizational culture describes the beliefs, norms, and values within the healthcare organization. In that vein, EBP implemented is significantly influenced by the healthcare professionals’ skills, beliefs, and knowledge of the EBP framework. Organizational culture supports and strengthens the nurse’s beliefs and values on EBP and cultivates staff’s shared values and beliefs to realize the shared objective of successfully executing the EBP (Yoo et al., 2019). It is also essential to offer healthcare professionals training programs to foster their EBP abilities and empower administrators to lead the EBP implementation process effectively.
