IMViC is a term used during the identification and distinction of Enterobacteriaceae and other connected experiments. This experiment is broad and contains several tests that are related. The experiments include:
I- Indole test
M-Methyl Red Test
V-Voges-Proskauer
C- Citrate test (Microbugz, 2021).
2. IMViC and Enterobacteriaceae
The experiment is of great significance, mostly in cases when Enterobacteriaceae identification is required. The process can be more effective when integrated with urease. Therefore, the tests in the IMViC are crucial, and they are highly used in tracking the gram-negative bacteria that belong to the family Enterobacteriaceae. In addition, ONPG tests and Oxidase are performed to ensure the results obtained in the experiment are more accurate.
3. Differentiating Proteus Species from Other Enterobacteria
The urease test is the most effective way to differentiate Proteus and Providencia from other microbes in Enterobacteriaceae. The test is used to identify microbes that form exoenzyme known as urease (Microbugz, 2019). The exoenzyme breaks down urea to form carbon (IV) oxide and ammonia.
