According to the Bureau of Labour, the projection of the nursing population was going to grow by 19 percent between 2012 and 2022. This means that the registered nurses were going to increase (Ramachandran, 2014). In the recent events leading to and after the recent economic recessionhave brought about a reverse on the projected rise, with the number of nurses in the health care facilities reducing. The purpose of this paper is to highlight some of the details of the shortage of nurses in the health care facilities and in the country as a whole.
Summary of an Article
According to the article, the nursing fraternity was expected to increase from the year 2012 through to the year 2022. This figure was higher compared to the other occupations that were expected to grow at about 11 percent. With the recent recession the nursing sector like the other sectors has experienced shortage (Ramachandran, 2014). Most of the new entrants into the sector straight from college are finding it hard to get employed as the older nurses that are supposed to retire are staying on much longer (Huston, 2014). This is a shortage that has affected most of the parts of the world, with some places inAfrica suffering health implications. India according to the World Health Organisation is already in need of more than 2.4 million nurses, while Canada is going to be less 60,000 registered nurses by the year 2022, while the USA will be 800,000 short.

With the implementation of the Affordable Care Act, there are more than 8 million people who have subscribed for health insurance through Obama care. This is a trend that is expected to lead to higher demand for nurses in the health care facilities. At the same time, there are more people in the senior age and more than 3 million of them are going to join the Medicare and nursing homes (Cain, 2014).
