Delegation may be referred to as the authorization of another to execute activities that are normally expected on the nurse in clinical situations (Mitty, et al, 2010). Delegation normally has personal and professional benefits for both the nurse and the individual who is authorized to act on behalf of the nurse.
To begin with, it is important for the nurse to prepare well before delegating tasks for the purposes of ensuring that it is the necessary tasks that will be delegated and that they will be executed well. This is normally determined by what is expected of the nurse. The second stage is the selection of the individual to whom the tasks should be delegated. Normally, this individual should have the relevant knowledge and experience to ensure that the tasks delegated are handled well (Motacki & Burke, 2011).
