PURPOSE
The purpose of this assignment is to identify nursing care models utilized in today's various health care settings and enhance your knowledge of how models impact the management of care and may influence delegation. You will assess the effectiveness of models and determine how you would collaborate with a nurse leader to identify opportunities for improvement to ensure quality, safety and staff satisfaction.

Nursing care models are methods by which nursing care is carried out. The nursing care models used varies in different health care settings and from a set of client situations to another. The nursing care models provide a framework to guide practice and education. Moreover, the nursing care models offer the infrastructure for organizing and rendering care to clients and families. The nursing care models also reflect the philosophical foundation of client care as well as the prevailing organizational culture. Recently I visited a health care setting near our home, and I observed that they had adopted the patient-centered nursing care model. I came to this conclusion when I saw that nurses in that facility took their time to ask their patients which treatment they would prefer to treat their conditions. The fact that the nurses would empower the patients to make informed decisions about their care and render holistic care and offer a sympathetic presence to their patients also made me conclude that the facility had adopted the patient-centered nursing care model. One could establish that the nurses in that health care facility had professional competence, interpersonal skills, and strong professional values, as they were able to deliver what the patient-centered care model requires.
An article by Brigham Health Hub talks about the patient-centered nursing care model. The article says that the model entails changing the relationship between nurses and clients from the traditional model, which the nurses order similar treatment for most clients with similar medical situations, into a nurse-client relationship that regards treatment choices based on a client’s preferences. The article also establishes that patient-centered care model mainly focuses on outcomes that are significant to the individual patient (Brigham health hub. 2016). Moreover, the article establishes that the model entails the act of nurses of continuously engaging with patients so that they can become aware of the outcomes that are essential to the patients and also be able to make decisions that are in the best interest of the patients. An article by the Australian College of Nursing also talks about the patient-centered nursing care model. The article establishes that the model entails the needs and preferences of a patient being a central consideration in the consideration in the provision of nursing care (Australian college of nursing, 2014). The article also establishes that the model has been a significant principle underpinning the provision of health and the model affects the health outcomes and nurses job satisfaction positively. The article sets that examples of positive effects on the health outcomes contributed by the model include decreased mortality following myocardial infarction and reduced rates of hospitals acquired infections. The article also establishes that the nurse’s potential to successfully implement the patient-centered care model is determined by the characteristics of the nurses and the care environment.
Some articles talk about other nursing care models apart from the patient-centered care model. Examples of the articles include an article by US Department of Health Care Research and Quality and it talks about the primary nursing care model. The article states that the model entails the provision of comprehensive and individualized care by a similar nurse during the entire care period. The article states the model stresses the lack of discontinuity of care by having one nurse render full care for a little category of inpatients who are in a particular nursing unit of a health care facility ( Seago, 2016). In addition, it states that the model allows nurses to offer direct care of patients and demand nurses to accept 24-hour responsibility for a patient nursing care. An article by Canadian Nurses Association also talks about a different nursing care model, and it includes the team nursing care model. The article states that the team nursing care model entails the utilization of team leaders and members to render different elements of nursing care to a category of clients.
