In order to achieve the professional title of a Certified Nurse-Midwife (CNM), a nurse should be immensely committed to ameliorating healthcare disparities within marginalized communities that are underserved and underrepresented. The paper examines my goals to offer culturally sensitive healthcare, enhance equality and diversity, and transcend educational challenges to attain this vision.
Discuss your goals about caring for Underserved and Underrepresented populations upon graduation as a CNM.
An intense commitment to providing healthcare services to underrepresented and marginalized populations drives my quest to become a Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM). My primary goal as I prepare to become a CNM is to focus on assisting Underrepresented Minorities (URM) in regions with prevalent disparities in healthcare. One field where I intend to start my professional work involves communities of color, which experience disproportionately increased fetal and maternal mortality rates. As an individual practicing as a CNM belonging to a racial or ethnic minority group, I aim to address and reduce the existing disparity, fostering a sense of confidence, comprehension, and compassion among these populations. I aim to deliver culturally competent care, ensuring that patients experience a sense of visibility and validation. My aim entails cultivating partnerships with nearby community organizations, providing informative workshops on mother and child health, and ensuring convenient access to prenatal and postpartum healthcare services. By establishing collaborations with such organizations and local leaders, it will be possible to efficiently address the specific requirements and barriers the URM communities encounter (Epps et al., 2021).

Inclusion implies developing a healthcare environment that promotes respect, acceptance, and dignity for all people, irrespective of their unique traits or connections (Clark et al., 2022). As a healthcare professional, I envision transforming the healthcare setting using DEI concepts. From my viewpoint, the idea of DEI involves acknowledging th...
