My goals for this competency are to:
1 Function as a change agent and leader.
S- As an agent of change, I will embrace lasting opportunities to prepare a competent, agile, and confident workforce.
M- Success will be measured by evaluating nurses' responses to the changes in policy and the level of care they exhibit in dealing with diverse populations. The other way is analyzing the effectiveness of the organizational culture in embracing the set policies (especially in cultural and ethnic diversity).
A- This function will suffice by transforming nursing education by aligning the staff with the global healthcare needs of the diverse populace. The change will include embracing technology in the healthcare system, cultural and ethnic diversification of the medical team and the support staff, and expanding the opportunities and channels for nursing education.
R- The healthcare continuum has become more diverse and hence complex. For the diverse population's needs to be met on time and effectively, the medical centers must embrace the shift and formulate and implement relevant and appropriate policies (Poindexter, 2022). Additionally, technological advancement and the emergence of uncertainties, such as the Coronavirus pandemic, have forced various organizations to redefine their operations.
T- This goal will be attained during the practicum and hopefully completed at the end of week 6
2 Enhance nursing visibility and its leadership capabilities.
S- I will work towards enhancing nursing visibility and improving their leadership capabilities.
M- This goal will be measured by the increased visibility of nurses in community, state and national affairs.
A- Their visibility will be achieved by introducing nursing programs within parent institutions, the local community, and the national arena. Leadership skills are critical to being a good and efficient leader.
R- To be an agent of change, an individual should be in a position of influence for the transformation to be embraced and implemented (Astin, 2000). Nurses will take part in education to equip them with relevant leadership skills (Cornelius, 2016). Moreover, nursing visibility places healthcare facilities in an advantageous position to influence other stakeholders to embrace change.
