Philosophy of Nursing
Nurses are an integral part of the healthcare team. They often work for long hours and sometimes under intense pressure. There are several things that motivated me to pursue a nursing career. One of the reasons is the dedication of nurses to making a difference in the lives of other people. I always felt that the role of a nurse must be a higher calling. As I grew up, I interacted with several nurses. I was always amazed by their dedication to ensuring that they help patients improve. In addition, nurses play a crucial role in providing individuals with compassion and comfort, especially when it is most needed. Therefore, my dedication to making a positive difference in the lives of others has always made me attracted to the profession of nursing.
The second thing that greatly motivated me to pursue a nursing career was my belief in the sanctity of life. I believe that everyone on earth deserves the highest quality of care. I am always saddened to learn that there are such great disparities in access to care across different populations across the world. I hope that someday access to healthcare will not be a problem for at least most people across the globe. Whereas I may not have the ability to ensure that every person has access to healthcare, I was convinced that I could contribute in my small way by becoming a nurse. There is no doubt that pursuing a nursing profession is the best way to help promote the sanctity of life.

Giddens observes that professional identity shapes a person. It does not only shape their sense of self but also how they interact with the organization they work for. In addition, professional identity also influences the outlook toward society. Most importantly, Giddens argues that a person’s professional identity is closely related to the specialized kind of knowledge they have about their profession. I could not agree more with Giddens since the knowledge I have accumulated so far on professional identity and ethics has greatly shaped my nursing philosophy. The knowledge has influenced my values, ethics, and beliefs.
I hold several personal values when it comes to my role as a nurse. First, I believe in the importance of upholding integrity at all times. As a nurse, ensuring a high level of transparent in-patient care is important. The nurse is expected to always act in the best interest of the patient. I believe upholding integrity will promote high-care provision and maximize positive patient outcomes. On the other ha...
