Safe Staffing Levels
For many a practicing registered nurse, staffing has presented issues that are of a professional and personal concern. Staffing levels that are not properly implemented threaten the safety of the patient and also their safety, which in effect leads to a greater complexity of healthcare. Further it also affects the health and safety of the RN by increasing their pressure, injury rate, fatigue as well as their ability to provide healthcare. Safe staffing levels should be recognized and implemented through research, surveys, data collection, and legislative means; indeed safe staffing saves lives (Skekelle, 2013). The problem of safe staffing should therefore be studied because it is an inevitable initiative that extensively improves patient care and safety and also keeps nurses at the bedside.
