INTRODUCTION
Ethics revolves around bad or good. Bad ethics are those that are not acceptable and are against the wishes of anyone. Good ethics on the other hand are values that are acceptable by every person and are all positive. Ethics generally govern how one relates to the other. In the health sector, ethics are majorly discussed as pertaining to the relation of a doctor or a nurse to a patient and the family of the patient. It is very crucial that nurses act proper when it comes to their responsibilities and even when they want to carry out research. Some of the ethical issues touching on nurses include clinical issues involving the patient`s rights and care, professionalism, truth seeking issues, and societal issues. The nurses` ethical issues are not limited to the above mentioned issues, but are many and wide. Ethical considerations associated with the conduct of nursing research came to place after the WORLD WAR II. During the world war, many who had been captured as slaves were used by nurses in their research work, an act which was very unethical. This summary is on the ethical considerations associated with nurses` research and their contribution to nursing practice and to patients. (Guido, 2010).
BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY
The problem under study was why some nurses fail to abide by the ethical considerations governing their research when doing research. The other problem under study was that why the integration of research findings by nurses remains a serious problem in the field of medicine, despite the increase in research amounts generated by the nurses.
Ethical considerations have been stipulated clearly and, thus, the responsibility of every nurse to abide by them. The significance of the study is basically to foster the relationship between nurses and their subjects of research. It is also meant to show that human life is special and must be treated with dignity. The purpose of this paper is to identify and explain the ethical considerations that nurses must put in mind when carrying out any research, in summary form. This paper also gives recommendations or suggestions for future research. The objective of the study was to find out the ethical considerations that nurses ought to abide by when carrying out their research. Another aim was also to find out the extent to which the nurses follow the ethical considerations when doing research. Additionally, the objective of the study was to find out the barriers that nurses faced in trying to abide by the ethical considerations and to find out what could be done to facilitate or to foster the nurses` concern on the ethical considerations. The concept here is the ethical considerations to be abided by the nurses when conducting research.
METHOD OF RESEARCH
The qualitative method of data collection was used. This was facilitated with the use of semi-structured questions. The sample used was chosen purposely but not randomly. This is because the objective was to get rich data on the subject of the study and in addition was to ensure that the sample was a representation of all the specialties of the study. Many practitioners from all specialties were invited to take part in the study and only ten out of the a hundred that had come were picked to take part in the study. this were a representation of all sections of the nursing sector including mental health nurses, disability nurses, adult nurses, pediatric nurses, and midwives. All the nurses had experience in nursing practice and had been practicing for over five years.
Interviews were carried out on the nurses that had been sampled. The questions were interactive and open ended. Several lead questions were asked though prompt questions were also asked to motivate the interviewees to expound on their responses. Questions such as these were asked.
