Legislation Grid and Testimony/Advocacy Statement
Health policies significantly impact a country’s population. They help create guidelines that benefit patients, healthcare providers, and the healthcare system. This paper presents a legislation grid and a testimony/advocacy statement about a proposed health-related bill. Its purpose is to advocate for legislation aimed at solving a health problem in the United States.
Part 1: Legislation Grid
The proposed health-related Bill selected is Bill S. 2733- A bill to address the behavioral health workforce shortages through support for peer support specialists and for other purposes. Senator Tim Kaine introduced This Bill in the Senate on September 6, 2023. The Bill intends to address the behavioral health workforce shortage and improve America’s mental health by hiring nationally certified peer specialists. Increased behavioral health provider shortages that have limited Americans' access to necessary services influenced this Bill. Lack of access to needed services has subjected individuals to the costliest outcomes, such as hospitalization, homelessness, disability, and incarceration (World Health Organization, 2018). This Bill will give Americans the necessary support to prevent these outcomes.
As noted, Virginia Senator Tim Kaine sponsored this Bill. The Bill's co-sponsor is Senator Mike Brown. The
