The health care systems play a vital role in our society. It provides a wider range of services geared towards promoting health of the society and ensuring optimum socio-economic development. The health care system depends on the provision of the necessary supporting resources that facilitates execution of the duties, among them is adequate funding. However, most health care organizations face the challenge of meeting their financial needs complicated by the large patient population that require emergency care (Scott, 2000). An example of such health care organization faced with the challenge of inadequate funding in the recent past is the General Hospital in Onitsa, Nigeria. The hospital provides a various health services including outpatient, inpatient, and other emergency related cases. Inadequate funding in this organization paralyzed most of its functions, as it will be analyzed in the parts that follow in this essay.
Inadequate funding has severe impacts to the performance of the healthcare organizations. The health facilities face the challenge of shortage of supply of the required health care providers. This result in the provision of low quality health careservices, making it difficult for patients and the hospital achieve their goals and objectives. Provision of adequate resources results in poor coordination of activities within the health care organization. Resources ensure that, an adequate supply of the necessary tools, equipment, and human resources required for smooth coordination of activities in the organization.
