Similar to other industries, the health care industry is a business, and the providers expect reimbursement for services provided. However, there are regulations put in place to ensure that the organizations adhere to set standards. This essay seeks to research on three billing and coding regulations their effect on reimbursement in a healthcare organization.
The first guideline is the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPPA) of 1966. It provides procedures and rules for the electronic transmission of healthcare records, and creates procedures used in medical billing and coding (MedicalBillingAndCoding.org, 2017). Mainly, it requires the submission of all claim forms and supporting medical documents electronically.
