IOM Recommendations and Their Relevance
The future nature of various professions changes as each year goes by and the nursing profession is no exception. The major objective of the recommendations is to improve the quality of nursing related services to the various parties involved and in the process raise a generation of nurses worthy of the task that is presented unto them in their respective nations.
Proposed Measures to be taken
To fit in the list of recommendations set by the IOM in future years, I would first have to meet the required qualifications. To fulfill the requirements for recommendation 4, I first need to get a degree in nursing. I will achieve this by enrolling for a nursing course in a credible university within or outside the country and finish the course in the next four years. I will also work hard to get the best grades that I am needed to achieve by the end of the course. I will also achieve the additional credits that come with volunteering and working in a hospital. As the health care system undergoes transformation due in part to the Affordable Care Act (ACA), the nursing profession is making a wide-reaching impact by providing and affecting quality, patient-centered, accessible, and affordable care. In 2010, The Institute of Medicine (IOM) released the report The Future of Nursing: Leading Change, Advancing Health, which made a series of recommendations pertaining to the roles for nurses in the new health care landscape. Shortly after release of The Future of Nursing report, AARP and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation launched the Future of Nursing: Campaign for Action to shepherd The Future of Nursing report\u2019s recommendations. In 2014, the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation asked the IOM to convene a committee to assess progress made on implementing The Future of Nursing report recommendations and identify areas that should be emphasized over the next 5 years. A public webinar was held on Friday, December 4, 2015 from 11:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. EST. To fulfill the requirements for recommendation 5, I will pursue my education further after I have finished ding my baccalaureate degree. The additional knowledge will help me focus on the nursing profession more intensively than before which will be added on the experience that I have already. The theoretical and practical knowledge gathered within the years that I will be in school will help me be a better nurse than I would have been had I only taken the baccalaureate course.
