High-Risk Nutritional Practices
It is important for learners to understand that several high-risk nutritional behaviors are practiced among various cultures. These high-risk nutritional behaviors will be researched, examined, and interpreted in order to understand and value the historical perspective and belief system associated with the practice of the behaviors. Learners will examine how factors such as spiritual beliefs, education, etc., influence high-risk behaviors for each culture.
For this assignment, write a paper of 1,500-3,000 words in which you do the following:
1.Research, Identify, and explain the high risk nutritional behaviors practiced among 10 different cultures.
2.Discuss the historical belief system of the practice of the behaviors you find.
3.Explore the influencing factors on high-risk behaviors for each culture. These may include, but are not limited to (a) education; (b) family roles; (c) spiritual beliefs; (d) health care practices; and (e) drug and alcohol use.
APA format is required and in-text citations and references should be presented using APA documentation guidelines, which can be found in the APA Style Guide located in the Student Success Center. This paper requires an abstract and a minimum of 6 outside resources in addition to the textbook.

Risky Nutritional Behaviors

Abstract
The eating behaviors that one develops are relative to the psychological, social and biological aspects derived from the culture, traditions and the family factors that one is exposed to in their environment. These behaviors are picked early in life and develop gradually in the adolescents and the young adults to take form in adulthood. Risky nutritional habits are detrimental to the population as they have been reported to cause public health bottlenecks, resulting in massive costs in health and campaigns (Food and Agricultural Organisation, 2014). Different cultures across the globe have their share of risky nutritional habits that have historically impeded their public health status and threaten the future generations. Given that culture of the various populations is involved, the problems do not just affect one set of the pupation within the culture, but cuts across board. Over the years, the concern among most scholars on the issues related to risky nutritional habits has drawn a lot of attentions especially with reference to public health and sustainable medical as well as policy interventions. Most of the chronic diseases that have been on the rise have been associated with risky nutritional habits among the population from different cultures. Planning for the interventions on the same is crucial; however, the first step should be to understand the different risky nutritional habits among the various cultures across the globe (Food and Agricultural Organisation, 2014).
Thesis: Different world cultures have developed risky nutritional behaviors over time which impact on global public health.
African American Culture
Risky nutritional behaviors have detrimental effects on the practicing communities. Obesity among the African Americans has been on the rise since the 80s. It is estimated that the number of African Americans that are now obese has tripled (Friday, 2012). Due to the level of discrimination that the African Americans faced over the years, most of them have grown up in poor neighborhoods. The level of obesity is attributed to the dietary adoptions that most of the population has taken especially women. Most of the women are used to the fasts foods that are offered in most of the food chains across the counties, promising convenience. In addition, sedentary lifestyle has also been cited by multiple researches as one of the factors that are leading to obesity among the African Americans. Given that most of the African Americans have grown up in insecure neighborhoods, it is normal for the families to stay indoors. Some of the research findings also indicate that genetics could have a part to play, although the matter is still highly disputed (Food and Agricultural Organization, 2014).
Mexican Culture
In the last two decades, the Mexican community has also had some significant risky nutritional behaviors. This has aroused expected concerns among the researchers and the clinicians, calling for a nationwide approach to curb the disorders (Barriguete-Meléndez et al., 2009). One of the most common behaviors noted in the Mexican culture relates to binge feeding. Of concern also is the fact that most of the persons that have been found to be overfeeding are also affected by bulimia. This is a condition where a person overeats and then follows some erratic periods of attempted induced vomiting. This is due to the fact that the patient is overly concerned with their weight issues but they also have conflicting appetite to overeat. More women than men are affected by bulimia in Mexico, with women scoring 1.8% while the men follow at 0.6%. Among the main causes are the poor eating habits that most of the victims have developed. It is also a common affair where most of the persons in the society would want to fit in with the western social norms of a lean body frame. This was partly due to the media influences and popular culture. Economic status of most of the families that had the condition has also been found to play a great role, cutting across the urban and rural areas.
African Culture
In the last several months, the world has been on high alert over the Ebola scourge that up to this point in time has claimed more than 4000 lives. Bush meat in some of the African cultures is considered a favorite delicacy and as an easy substitute to the farm animals. Most of the villages have communities that believe in hunting their meat down in the deep forests. This is a tradition that has been passed one from the days of initial civilizations (Phillip, 2014). Some of the factors that have contributed to the risky nutritional include the level of education. Most of the people in the villages lack quality education on the risks of eating bush meat. It is also common to find that part of the population believe in spiritual cleansing and perceived health benefits.
European Culture
The European population is famed for the amount of red meat they eat in their diets. It is also a population that takes in a lot of processed meats which have been found to be dangerous in the long run on the human health. In Britain for example, most of the people eat roughly 70 grams of processed meat and red meat. Red meat has been historically acclaimed a high energy food, with high reserves of minerals such as zinc and iron (Mosley, 2014). However, recent research has found that most of the red meat sources tend to have high saturated fats and cholesterol, leading to several forms of cancer, among them bowel cancer. High social economic factors and quality standards of living are fronted as some of the most crucial aspects leading to the red meat uptake.
German Culture
Germany has had a culture of drinking beer, running more than 200 years. As such, alcohol consumptions among the Germans have had quite a long history that dates back to early 19th century. Alcohol consumption is a risky nutritional behavior and even though it has been found to have some very significant nutritional benefits, in excess it can be det...
