Future prospects for the growth of medical assistant profession are bright, as the US health care industry diversifies. The 2008/2009 increased unemployment in the healthcare industry, but medical assistants still face bright prospects now and in the future. Technological advancement in the health care industry has allowed medical assistants to keep pace with changing trends in the industry, with the demand for healthcare professionals increasing. Medical assistants should have good communication skills, clinical skills applicable in patient care, as well as administrative skills that ease management of facilities (Lindh et al., 2013). This essay looks into the future prospects of medical assistants, highlighting on growth opportunities among these workers.
The health care industry is increasingly reliant on office workers in hospital settings like medical assistants, who perform both clinical and administrative duties. Expansion of the health care industry is one of the main reasons as to why medical assistants are sought after as the American aging population increases. The medical assistant can report to health care practitioners, physician and an office manager, and this makes them flexible when carrying out their duties. On healthcare, medical assistants have the opportunity to specialize in diverse fields including chiropractics, podiatry and ophthalmology (Blesi et al., 2011). Essentially, there is a broad array of medical areas where medical assistant are in demand as the field is dynamic.
Medical assistants play a distinct role from physician assistants, but their roles are complementary especially on clinical matters (Blesi et al., 2011). Since medical assistants interview patients and record their health history, they will increasingly play a more prominent role as medical doctors focus more on specialization.
