A psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner (PMHNP) holds vital responsibilities in the community of diagnosing and treating patients with mental health problems. In the past, individuals with mental health issues were stigmatized and became isolated to seek proper medical attention. Although this stigma is currently being broken, there is a lot that needs to be done to help people with mental health problems. This paper focuses on the requirements, education, certification, and leadership skills among others that an individual should have to become a PMHNP in Alabama.

For an individual to become a nurse practitioner in Alabama, the person should have an active and valid license for a registered nurse and must have completed a higher degree or master's in a nursing program. In addition, one should be certified by the national agency. These rules will affect my ability to practice as a nurse practitioner in Alabama. However, after completing my family nurse practitioner, I will become licensed and apply for a certification from the national nursing agency. In that light, I would have met all the requirements and be ready for a respective program to achieve my dream career.
